Never copy from essay samples available online
The temptation many students encounter at least once during their academic career is to copy essays or other information from an online source and past it into their paper. This is a very, very bad idea and it can lead to a lot of trouble and heartache for you in the long run if you decide to do this with your essay or writing assignment. There are several key reasons why you should never copy and paste essays or online information as your own and turn it in.
- Failing Grade
When you copy an essay from an online source and try to pass it off as your own, you risk getting a failing grade on the assignment. Today there are many tools available to instructors that allow them to check the papers that they have turned in to them. They can check to see if that essay has appeared anywhere else. Ten years ago you might have gotten away with it, but these days, you will get caught.
- Expulsion from Class/School
Some schools take plagiarism, the copying of someone else’s work and passing it off as your own, as a very serious offense. You may not just receive a failing grade for the assignment; you may also fail the entire class because of one offense. In some situations, depending on the severity of the plagiarism and the assignment that was plagiarized, you could even be kicked out of the program or the school and not be allowed to attend classes there at all.
- Long-Standing Record
If any of these things happen to you because you copied essays or material from online and passed it off as your own, you are not just going to suffer during your school days. Future employers can find out about it and it can really hurt your chances of getting hired or finding a good job. Certain careers that rely heavily on ethics, morals, hard work, and honestly can see past instances of plagiarism as a bad mark on your character, and it can take years of hard work to make up for one lapse of judgment with an assignment in school.
These are the primary risks you face if you do go through with the temptation and plagiarize your writing assignment. It is not worth the risk of failing assignments, classes, and ending your academic career just because you copied an essay from the internet and tried to pass it off as your own. Plagiarism is never tolerated on any campus and you should not resort to it in order to pass your class.
