3 Reasons to Write Essays at Night
To write a great essay, you need a schedule. You need something to make the work more manageable, and tell you exactly when you need to sit down and start cranking out that essay. The question is, though: when should you write? What’s the best time to set aside during the day for essay composition? Well, according to many acclaimed researchers, the best time to put pencil to paper (or fingers to keyboard) is at night. Why does writing at night benefit you? We’d thought you’d never ask! Here’s some reasons that writing at night is such an excellent writing time alternative:
- You’ve got nothing else planned. No matter who you are, you’ve probably got a lot going on during your day. Whether it’s school classes, work, social events or other important happenings, you’ve got a lot to take care of. When you sit down to write an essay, you shouldn’t be constantly looking at the clock anticipating when you need to leave for the next event. This is distracting and limiting on your time. By writing at night, you avoid this issue. There’s nothing on the docket; for the next 12 hours, you’ll either be writing, or you’ll be asleep. This gives you more freedom and causes you to write in a less rushed, stressful way. Of course, don’t schedule your writing on nights you’re supposed to go out – do it on weeknights, when nothing’s going on!
- You’re brain’s been working. In the morning, your brain is struggling out of sleep and typically not functioning well (unless you’re a morning person, in which case – wow, that’s unreal). By midday, the synapses are warming up and starting to fire more coherently. It’s only by the end of the day, though, that your brain is in full-on working mode. You’ve got the challenges and events of the day to brighten up your mind. Plus, anything you may have learned or enjoyed that day will be sitting in the back of your mind, possible benefiting you in your writing. The end of the day is better for writing strictly because you’ve got more ideas in your head and your brain is at it’s maximum efficiency.
- You can relax and take breaks. At night, you simple have more time than when you do during the day. You aren’t racing to get done and your aren’t stressed about the next thing on your calendar. When you write at night, you can take needed breaks that you may not have available to you otherwise. Plus, writers that work at night are shown to have a more relaxed attitude toward writing as a whole. With the easy, non-urgent atmosphere of night writing, you’re more likely to enjoy the writing and push out higher quality essays.
